Shabkar.Org
is a non-profit website site dedicated to vegetarianism as a Buddhist
way of life and takes its name from Shabkar
Tsodruk Rangdrol (1781-1851), the great Tibetan yogi who espoused
the ideals of vegetarianism.
By presenting
an online collecting of texts and other content on Buddhism and
vegetarianism Shabkar.Org aims to contribute in a positive way to
the view that keeping a vegetarian or vegan diet is part of Buddhist
teachings while keeping in mind that
becoming
a vegetarian or vegan can be a gradual path.
Backgrounds
Shabkar.Org is an initiative of André
Kalden, friend and student of
Muktinath Lama Wangyal who is the abbot of the pilgrimage site
Muktinath-Chumig
Gyatsa in the Himlayas of Nepal. In 1818 AD Shabkar connected
himself to this pilgrimage site as we can read in his autobiography.
The official launch of Shabkar.Org took place at November 12, 2006,
the auspicious day of Buddha Shakyamuni's Descent from the 33rd
Heaven, and was supported by prayers and puja of the Muktinath nuns.

material collected on this website is created by others and is published
with pemission of the copyright owners (which does
not necessarelly mean that they agree with other content or the
setup of this website as a whole).
Much written material came from the Padmakara
Translation Group and is published by Shambhala
Publications in the book Food
of Bodhisattvas. Both organizations granted permission for
the publication of Shabkar's texts at Shabkar.Org by which they
made this website possible.
Also

in PDF Shabkar.Org contacted the copyright holders. When they
did not reply, the liberty was taken to publish the content anyway.
